Discipleship at FBC Cookeville
What is Discipleship?
At FBC Cookeville we are serious about discipleship. What is discipleship? Discipleship is the process of you growing in Christ through the teaching and accountability of other Christians. Now you might say, well that happens for me in every conversation I have with other Christians! Well, you’d be right! But here at FBC we think discipleship is so incredibly important that we have worked in different components in the church to ensure that every person is discipled.
Discipleship is not only the job of the pastoral staff or the deacons, it is the job of every believer. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to “Go and make disciples.” That command was given to all Christians. That doesn’t mean you have to preach to make disciples. It simply means that you are intentionally training those younger than you in the faith and that you yourself are being taught by those more mature than you.
At FBC, discipleship primarily happens in 3 different components: Sunday morning worship, small groups, and discipleship Groups. As you can see on the infographic below, each of these are vitally important to growing in your walk with the Lord. We invite you to join us in discipleship! It will encourage you, challenge you, give you community, and grow you in your faith and walk with God. For information o each component check the info boxes below.
